Doctors, nutritionists and other leading health experts all agree that consuming the following supplements regularly, along with adequate exercise and a healthy diet, can benefit one's overall physical and mental health. Here is my take below:
1. Multivitamin: taking an age appropriate multivitamin helps one cover all the bases, particularly if one is active, leads a stressful life (who doesn't?), is pregnant or nursing. Be sure to avoid supplements that may contain impurities such as lead by purchasing from companies that source their nutrients from reliable suppliers and who confirm purity standards via third party analytical lab testing. Be certain to avoid products containing microcrystalline cellulose or modified cellulose.
2. Omega 3,6,9: It is crucial that the balance of these fatty acids in one's diet be suitable to support healthy hormonal balance, smooth skin and mental clarity, among many other benefits. It is best to purchase pharmaceutical grade supplements or those that have been molecularly distilled to ensure that heavy metals and other toxins are not present in the final fish oil product. For vegetarians who steer clear of animal products, be sure to buy only organic flax seed oil, either in the bottle or capsule. I also like hemp seed oil for its potent fat burning effects.
3. Antioxidants: The research continues to grow exponentially about the benefits of antioxidants and associated phytonutrients on our health. Two of my favorite antioxidants are resveratrol and acai fruit extract. Both are potent for detoxifying, melting fat and fighting aging.
4. Fiber: I cannot stress the benefits of sufficient fiber intake enough, along with adequate filtered, alkaline water. Regularly cleaning out one's GI tract with both soluble and insoluble fiber protects against cancer, intestinal polyps, constipation and boosts one's immunity. My favorite product is Happy Tummy, which we proudly sell on our website.
5. Probiotics: Considering that our immunity resides largely in our intestines, it is crucial to ensure that our gut flora is healthy. Food based ways of increasing probiotics include non-GMO miso, organic kefir or yogurt, sprinkling Jerusalem Artichoke Flour or taking a high quality supplement such as Kinu(TM).
