Healthy, Prosperous New Year!

May everyone leave behind last year's worries and start anew.  Stay tuned as I post articles, detoxification protocols, as well as new products I developed recently for weight loss, detoxification, enhanced clarity and immunity boosting.  I and all the staff at IHS, LLC wish you and yours a healthy, fabulous new year.

Like many animal lovers, many of us have beloved pets as part of our families and in my field I am often asked what natural methods of flea prevention are effective and how to handle an infestation.  Below are some nontoxic methods I've used with great success:

1.  Liberally sprinkle borax (such as 20 Mule Team Borax, available in the laundry section of the grocery store and Target) into all carpeted areas.  A historical tidbit:  this product is named after the twenty-mule teams that were used by William Tell Coleman's company to move borax out of Death Valley, California, to the nearest rail spur between 1883 and 1889.
2.  Then using a broom or brush, rake the powder (wear a dust mask and have all other humans and animals leave the area) into the carpet, pet bedding, area rugs and the like, taking special care to push the broom into the crevices along baseboards, in the couch - this is easier with 2 people to move furniture around
3.  Wait a day or two, then vacuum vigorously for all the flea eggs to hatch out - repeat vacuuming every other day at least, especially under beds and couches - NB - while borax is deemed nontoxic to domestic animals and adult humans, if you have small children or infants, you may wish to substitute food grade (NOT pool grade) diatomaceous earth for this process, since pediatricians warn against children crawling and inhaling borax.
4.  You may wish to create an all natural spray using 1 part Willard Water, 1 part Chac Mool blitz water (can also use the Jade or Amethyst formulations), 2 parts plain water and a few drops of grapefruit essential oil.  This spray smells lovely but also can be used to mist bedding and couches where borax may not be ideal.   You can also make a bug spray consisting of 1 capful of Listerine, plus a capful (or large squirt) of Joy dishwash liquid diluted into a gallon of water - put into spray bottle.
5.  If you have cats, be sure to flea comb the cat daily and bathe the cat thoroughly to wash away fleas on its body.
